Dark Moon Journaling with Goddess Hekate

A Pre-New Moon Ritual for Clarity and Intentions

How was your Full Moon? Did you identify and release what no longer serves you? If you need guidance, explore my blog post on the Triple Moon Goddesses to enhance your Full Moon ritual:

My friend and partner in the upcoming Asteroid Goddess Astrology workshop conducted a beautiful Full Moon ritual live. Watch it to release karmic patterns and open new opportunities:

But first! Before setting intentions on the New Moon, it's essential to be crystal clear on what you want to manifest in your life. During the Full Moon, we release what is no longer needed, reflecting on the past. Now, as we approach the New Moon, we turn our awareness forward. The Dark Moon phase, a crossroads of awareness, offers a perfect opportunity to look inward and journal, setting the stage for clear intentions at the New Moon.

Why Dark Moon Journaling?

The Dark Moon, the phase just before and after the New Moon when the Moon is hidden by the Sun, is the domain of Goddess Hekate. She is a goddess of magic, liminal spaces, and crossroads. Known as the "Mother of Witches," Hekate is often invoked for her wisdom and guidance in navigating the unknown and unseen. She is also a protector of the marginalized and a guide through transitions and transformations.

Hekate's presence during the Dark Moon phase invites us to delve deep into our subconscious and confront our shadows. This time of introspection and inner work is an opportunity to uncover hidden desires, fears, and goals. Hekate's energy helps us to see beyond the surface, understand the deeper layers of our psyche, and bring to light what has been hidden in the darkness. In astrology, Hekate is represented by Asteroid #100. Check your natal chart to see where she is placed and receive her personal message!

During this period of stillness and reflection, we can call upon Hekate to assist us in our journaling practice. By invoking her wisdom, we can gain clarity and insight, paving the way for powerful and intentional New Moon manifestations. Hekate assists us in defining the empty space, the space for new opportunities and growth.

Her symbols, such as keys, torches, and dogs, can be incorporated into your journaling ritual to honor her presence. The keys represent unlocking hidden knowledge and potential, the torches symbolize illumination and guidance through the darkness, and the dogs are her loyal companions and protectors.

By journaling during the Dark Moon and connecting with Goddess Hekate, we can harness her transformative energy to clear away the old and make way for the new. This practice helps us set clear intentions for the New Moon and also empowers us to navigate our own life's crossroads with wisdom and confidence.

How to Journal During the Dark Moon

1) Create a Sacred Space: Find a quiet, comfortable place where you can write without distractions. Light a candle, burn incense, or play soft music to create a calming atmosphere.

2) Set Your Intentions: Begin by setting the intention for your journaling session. You might want to explore specific areas of your life, such as career, relationships, or personal growth. (Set intentions by Annual Profection Time Lord)

3) Reflect on the Past Month: Take a moment to reflect on the past lunar cycle. What did you achieve? What challenges did you face? What lessons did you learn? Write down your thoughts and feelings. (Reflect on your past lunar cycle with Lunar Returns)

4) Identify What You Want to Release: Think about what you want to let go of before the New Moon. This could be limiting beliefs, negative patterns, or anything that no longer serves you. Write them down and imagine releasing them from your life.

5) Visualize Your Future: Now, turn your focus to the future. What do you want to manifest in the upcoming lunar cycle? What goals do you have? What new opportunities do you want to invite into your life? Write down your visions and dreams.

6) Write Freely: Allow your thoughts to flow freely onto the paper. Don't worry about grammar or structure. The goal is to let your subconscious mind speak through your writing.

7) Set Clear Intentions: After you've reflected and visualized, set clear and specific intentions for the New Moon. Write them down in a positive, present-tense format, as if they are already happening.

Triple Moon Goddesses Tri-Color Tea Blend

To accompany your journaling session, I’ve created a Triple Moon Goddesses Tri-Color Tea blend! It includes:

  • White Jasmine Tea for Full Moon Goddess Selene

  • Blue Butterfly Pea for Dark Moon Goddess Hekate

Blend equal parts of each ingredient, brew a pot of tea, steep for 10 minutes, add some honey, and enjoy while you journal!

Embrace this period of introspection and make the most of your Dark Moon journaling session. Prepare to set powerful intentions and watch your dreams unfold with the coming New Moon.

By integrating the wisdom of Goddess Hekate and the ritual of Dark Moon journaling, you can achieve a deeper understanding of your inner self and set the stage for transformative growth. May your journey be filled with clarity, intention, and the magic of the lunar cycles.
