Astrological Self-Care Guide: Tea Rituals for Each Traditional Planet

Steaming mug on windowsill, cozy blanket below. Text reads: A Simple Tea Ritual for Self-Care Using Astrology. Calm, serene mood.

A Simple Way to Work with Your Energy Using Astrology and Tea

There are moments when the body speaks before the mind can explain.

A sore throat that appears out of nowhere.

Restlessness that won’t settle.

Fatigue that lingers longer than it should.

It’s easy to dismiss these as random.

But in astrology, the body and the sky speak the same language.

Each of the traditional planets reflects a different pattern in the system—how energy moves, where it gets stuck, and what helps restore balance.

You don’t need to study astrology in depth to work with this.

You can just begin by simply paying attention.

Listening a little closer to your body.

Then choosing a small way to support what you notice.

Tea is one of the simplest ways to do that.

It gives the body something tangible, while the ritual gives the moment meaning.

The Sun: Vitality and Sovereignty

  • Symptoms: Low energy, poor circulation, lack of confidence, heart palpitations.

  • Remedial Tea: Rosemary and Calendula. Rosemary stimulates the circulatory system and clears the "fog" from the mind, while Calendula mimics the solar disk, bringing "inner light."

  • Ritual: Brew during the Sun hour on Sunday. Sit facing East as the tea steeps. Visualize a golden cord connecting your solar plexus to the solar disk while sipping the tea.

The Moon: Rhythm and Digestion

  • Symptoms: Insomnia, bloating, fluid retention, emotional volatility.

  • Remedial Tea: Lemon Balm (Melissa) and Marshmallow Root. Lemon Balm is classically "Lunar" for its ability to soothe the stomach and spirit. Marshmallow root provides the "moisture" needed for Lunar lubrication.

  • Ritual: Use "Moon Water" (water left under moonlight overnight) to brew your tea. Drink before bed to support emotional balance or encourage vivid dreams.

Mercury: Intellect and Connection

  • Symptoms: Anxiety, stuttering, respiratory issues, mental exhaustion.

  • Remedial Tea: Peppermint and Gotu Kola. Peppermint clears the lungs and sharpens the senses. Gotu Kola (often associated with Mercury for its brain-boosting properties) supports the nervous system.

  • Ritual: Write a single word representing a mental block on a piece of biodegradable paper. Place it under your saucer while you drink. Once finished, dispose of the paper in moving water or the wind.

Venus: Harmony and Union

  • Symptoms: Sore throat, kidney imbalances, skin eruptions, loneliness.

  • Remedial Tea: Rose Petal and Damiana. Rose is the quintessential herb of Venus, governing the throat and the heart's ease. Damiana warms the pelvic region and restores "desire" for life.

  • Ritual: Stir your tea clockwise three times, whispering an affirmation of self-love. Add a drop of honey (a Venusian substance) to "sweeten" your external circumstances.

Mars: Action and Defense

  • Symptoms: Inflammation, fevers, infections, suppressed anger.

  • Remedial Tea: Nettle and Ginger. Nettle is high in iron (Mars's metal) and cleanses the blood. Ginger provides the "heat" necessary to burn off stagnation.

  • Ritual: Brew this tea when you need to "sever" a bad habit. As you strain the herbs, visualize yourself cutting a ribbon that no longer serves you.

Jupiter: Abundance and Wisdom

  • Symptoms: Liver sluggishness, hip pain, over-indulgence, pessimism.

  • Remedial Tea: Dandelion Root and Sage. Dandelion is the primary "Jupiterian" liver cleanser. Sage provides the "wisdom" and "preservation" associated with the Greater Benefic.

  • Ritual: Pour a small amount of the first brew onto the earth as a libation (an offering) to the spirit of growth. Drink the rest while planning a future expansion or project.

Saturn: Structure and Release

  • Symptoms: Joint pain, dental issues, chronic fatigue, melancholy.

  • Remedial Tea: Horsetail and Mullein. Horsetail is rich in silica for the bones and teeth (Saturn’s domain). Mullein is a "stalk-like" herb that helps "upright" the skeletal system and clear deep-seated congestion.

  • Ritual: Drink in silence. Saturn governs solitude and time. Focus on the weight of the cup in your hand, grounding your energy into the chair and the floor.

Working with Astrological Self-Care Practices

Most of all, connect with your intuition and start simple.

You can begin with just one herb—add it to a tea you already enjoy. It doesn’t have to be a perfect blend to be effective.

Notice what you’re feeling, then choose the closest match.

You can also work with natural timing:

  • Day planets (Sun, Jupiter, Saturn) tend to support you during the daytime

  • Night planets (Moon, Venus, Mars) tend to support you during the evening or night

  • Mercury can be worked with anytime, especially when your mind needs resetting

This practice isn’t about getting it perfect.

It’s about building a relationship with your own rhythms.

If you’ve ever felt like your body is trying to tell you something—but you didn’t have the language for it—this is one way to begin listening.
